About the Attorney
Colleen Cowles, Esq., is a 1983 graduate of Hamline University School of Law and is licensed to practice in Wisconsin and Minnesota. She built a highly successful estate planning practice and founded Cowles Legal Systems, Inc. to train estate planning attorneys nationwide.
In 2006, Colleen sold Cowles Legal Systems to Thomson-Reuters, one of the largest legal information providers in the world. After consulting with the buyers for three years, Colleen took time off to write, study investing, enjoy travel and photography, and spend time with her husband, two adult sons and daughter-in-law.
Colleen’s clients now get the benefit of many years of estate planning expertise combined with a solo practice where no client is delegated to subordinates and every client experiences Colleen’s personal service.
Attorney Cowles is author of the book ‘The Effective Estate Planning Practice’, published by the American Bar Association, as well as numerous articles on the subjects of estate and tax planning, business transition and life planning.
Colleen grew up on a Wisconsin potato farm and learned the blessings and tribulations of family business on a personal level. She has a B.S. degree in English education, a J.D. in Law, and has completed the Investools' Masters Investor program. Prior to attending law school, she was a successful Realtor and a business owner, building and selling several successful businesses. She has attended the co-active coaching training program, and completed the Robbins Mastery program in NLP and leadership. Her practical experience and pragmatic approach have been guiding principals in her development and success of Cowles Law and in designing business and estate plans for clients.
